Free Ferries in Norway for Passengers and Cars (Route Map)

Unexpected and joyful in 2022 was the decision of the Norwegian government to make a large number of ferries free of charge. This pleasant innovation in every sense entered into force on 1st July 2022.

The government’s decision is aimed at increasing mobility for local residents and attracting tourists and only applies to relatively small ferry crossings with up to 100,000 passengers per year.

This applies not only to passengers who can use the ferry for free, but also motorcycles, cars, and even caravans. To check the ferry line that you are interested in, please visit the Autopass For Ferry website and select the appropriate line and you will find all fares.

Here is an example of a ferry line at Lofoten archipelago between Moskenes ferjekai and Røst ferjekai, that, as you can see, now is completely free for not only passengers but also for motorcycles, cars, motorhomes, and all other vehicles up to 22 meters long.
