Free Ferries in Norway for Passengers and Cars (Route Map)
In an unexpected and delightful move in 2022, the Norwegian government decided to make a significant number of ferries free of charge. This positive change took effect on July 1st, 2022.
The government’s decision aims to enhance mobility for local residents and attract tourists. It applies exclusively to relatively small ferry crossings, each handling up to 100,000 passengers annually.
This benefit is available not only to passengers but also to motorcycles, cars, and even caravans. To check the ferry line of interest, visit the Autopass for Ferry website, select the appropriate line, and view all the fares.
For example, the ferry line at the Lofoten archipelago between Moskenes Ferjekai and Røst Ferjekai is now completely free for passengers, motorcycles, cars, motorhomes, and all other vehicles up to 22 meters in length.
Now, you don’t have to worry about expensive trips to less popular parts of Norway. Travel, explore, and discover new places!
